Beyond Causality
Jung saw that there are events in the world that cannot be explained by causality (A→B). He named the phenomenon where two events occur simultaneously in time and are meaningfully connected Synchronicity.
Example: Dream of the Scarab Beetle
Jung’s famous case: The moment a patient talked about a “golden scarab beetle dream,” a real scarab beetle flew in from outside the window. This is not coincidence, but a moment when the unconscious and the external world resonated.
Synchronicity in Daily Life
- A call from the person you were thinking about
- The book you need appears in front of you by chance
- Seeing repeating numbers (11:11, 222)
This is a signal the universe sends saying “Pay attention to this, right now.”
How to Experience Synchronicity
- Open Your Mind: Don’t dismiss everything as coincidence
- Record: Write meaningful coincidences in your journal
- Act: If you receive a signal, take a step in that direction
