Beyond the basic nine types, Tritype identifies your dominant type in each of the three centers — Gut, Heart, and Head — to produce a richer, more precise personality profile. Developed by Katherine Fauvre Chestnut, this concept is the cornerstone of advanced Enneagram study.

What Is Tritype?

The nine Enneagram types are organized into three Centers:

CenterTypesCore Emotion
Gut (Body) Center8, 9, 1Anger
Heart Center2, 3, 4Shame
Head Center5, 6, 7Fear

Your Tritype is a combination of three numbers — one from each center.

Example: Tritype 479

  • From the Gut Center (8, 9, 1): 1
  • From the Heart Center (2, 3, 4): 4
  • From the Head Center (5, 6, 7): 7

Tritype Order: The first number listed is your primary type. 147, 471, and 714 share the same numbers but indicate different primary drives.
